Beer-Beatelz, Müsli-Stompers and Wigged-Out Wiener Schnitzels from the 60s


Welcome back, my friends, to another tour through the vaults of 60s Beat & Garage. I guess the subtitle does explain the menu. In fact, Germany and the Deutsch speaking nations have been covered extensively (thanks to Praekraut-Pandaemonium, and to the Crash! Boom! Bang!-series not forgetting Jancy of Old Melodies (http://allmusic-wingsofdream.blogspot.com) for his Heimatliche Klänge-effort. Still, there’s some tasty sounds left at the bottom of the barrel, I’d reckon. This set wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the Lolly Pope who sent me many jewels of his hidden treasure (so turn all complaints to this higher authority). Special thanks go out to bands as Die Dixäners, The Rebbels, The Anyones, and The Vampires who posted rare 45s and unissued tape recordings, to Al at http://www.evolver.at/stories/Trash_Rock_Archives, and to all bloggers I have mentioned in the booklet. After the last excursions into the outer spheres of forgotten 60s teen music, I felt it was time for some straight crude fratty and trippy sounds from the home of Garage. So enjoy 27 mostly uncomped tracks from the US of A. Just in case you wanted to know: As with all of my installments, I have excluded tracks posted by bloggers and sites such as GaragehangOver, Dan’s Garage, Mr. Ed’s Round Up, and Artyfacts on Wax as I presume every Garagehead will follow these sites on a regular basis and take his own downloads, right? Electrick Loosers, pts. 5 + 6

From the depth of the Pope’s Private Archives, aka the Lolly Pope, creator of the famous Prae-Kraut Pandaemonium and Electrick Loosers-installments and head of our beloved Spurensicherung / Roots & Traces-blogspot, who most kindly sent me 5 audio cassettes (you remember?) with unreleased beat-beauties from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and the German Democratic Republic (you remember?)plus some Gastarbeiter- ("guest-worker") bands touring the continent. For one reason or another (who knows?), these tracks were never featured on PKP but, at least to my ears, are simply too good to be missed. So we decided to continue the Electrick Loosers-series with 48 pieces from unreleased acetates and tapes, budget-samplers, b-sides and a few live-recordings. Be patient for the audio-quality, I tried my best, and I’m sure some hiss and muffled volume-tracks won’t spoil the fun. So turn up the volume and enjoy new sounds out of the caves, garages and Beat-Kellers!

UC131 / UC 132 –Vergeten Nederbeat – Deel 1 + 2

Right after the USA and England, most probably Holland had the most vivid scene in the 60s with hords of groups, heaps of clubs and dancehalls all over the country, a decent teen-press and valid radio stations (Radio Veronica, Hilversum III). Even if Dutch Garage bands have been widely compiled, some tracks seem to have escaped the net. So get your double-dose of forgotten Beat, Freakbeat, and weird Psychedelia from Holland and prepare for some hilarious and even downright stupid sounds out of the Beat-Kellers behind the dikes (Grolsch-Beer and Jenever-booze did play their parts in the Dutch scene!). Here we are again with a selection of (mostly) never compiled or re-released gems from the US 60s scene. Wild sounds all around here, some trashy (never mind some crackle’n’hiss and never use headphones), some moody (get your girl-/boyfriend and turn the lights low), hopefully all good listening-fun. This time, you get two times Midnight Hour but actually in a very different version. Just in time for your Halloween-party, here’s a selection of gravey sounds performed by monsters of all unkind…this time, it’s a "(mostly) 60s (mostly) uncomped"-package, as a few sounds predate the 60s and two tracks were recorded in the 70s (Peter Ferrara and the Big Daddy Graham-song which dates from 1976) but I reckon they’re in good (I mean: weird, of course) company here….most of the bloody tracks are shoveled up from the depth of the Youtube-vaults, some have been posted by Kogar the Swinging Ape and Debby D at the infamous WFMU Ichiban-site and have shown up on the creepy comps created by Master-monster J.R. Williams, altho’ I tried to avoid overlaps. But now, rise up from your graves, prepare the Bloody Marys, put on your fangs, humps and facial-hair-masks... and have a monstrous ball! Who thought that the Southeast-Asian 60s scene has been compiled completely? Me, probably, but I was wrong: Even though compilers Steven Farram aka Dr. Troppo (CD-Rs Tonic Chop Gajah and Chinese a Go Go) and David Greenfield (CD "Let’s a go go", Silver Tortoise Rec)(Get it!) did a marvellous job, and Joseph C. Pereira’s “100 Greatest Singapore 60s”-Box makes you think you’ve heard it all, here’s more goodies taken from the eastern corners of the internet, for a good part from http://www.youtube.com/user/lvlalaysiaboleh but also from various bloggers such as http://popoknet.blogspot.com and http://hamsterguppies.wordpress.com. Doin’ my selection work (- no overlaps with the compilations mentioned above - ), I tried to avoid everything too much "easy listing" but focus on more garagey-sounds with a distinctive "Beat". From hot Asia to cold Canada is not a long way, at least not in the garage. So get your daily double-dose of Beat and stomp, mixed with a good measure of moody sounds, from the world's second-largest country by area and lands as far away as Newfoundland (who would have thought).
Most of the 45s featured have never been compiled before, so chances are good you’ll hear these little gems here for the very first time, unless, like me, you’ve stumbled over some fab Youtube-chanells say by Tokenhippe54 or Ibidable who generously shared their vast collections of Canadian 45s (thanks a lot mates). 60s A-Go-Go-Sounds from Malaysia – Singapore – Hong Kong – Indonesia – India – South Corea – Thailand - Japan



… and back again to Asia! This new sequel features some more “garagey” sounding tracks and reminds me of two things: Reggae and Merseybeat! Also, to me, the "a-go-go”-versions of You Really Got Me, or Satisfaction, as done with no fuzz-pedal available and hardly understanding the words, represent the real spirit of "Garage". Audio-quality should be slightly improved here, although certainly you have to go through some crackle and hiss (sorry for the cut-off ending of track 10). A few tracks of this installment have been taken from a podcast by DJ Hot Mustard posted at http://www.fancymag.com (huge thanks Mr. Mustard!). Finally, I’d be glad if someone would come up with some info on the [unknown] and [undecipherable] entries. Hala Hala! (and, before I forget: Have a splendid 2012!)

I never imagined Holland’s well compiled 60s scene would yield more unpublished gems. More wild (Mod?)-tunes for your dancing–party! Since statistics tell me that "Do the Stomp #1" is the most downloaded of my ínstallments, here’s Part(y) 2 with 28 more Rockabilly- and Praebeat-Sounds. A few tracks have appeared on some samplers such as Frolic Dinner, Tittyshakers or That'll Flat Git It but I hope it won’t spoil the fun.
